Elke Downer
Elke Downer is an accomplished musician with over 20 years of performance experience as a folk singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, based in the pacific northwest. She is also a dedicated non-profit leader with expertise in program design and development, program evaluation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. In her current role, Elke skillfully serves as a program manager, supervising a team of music specialists, while partnering with pediatric hospitals nationwide to leverage the healing power of music for children.
Elke is a passionate advocate for arts in health. Her commitment to professionalization, equity, and inclusion in the field is evident through her active participation with the National Organization for Arts in Health (NOAH). Notably, she has contributed to the revised 2023 NOAH Code of Ethics as a member of the Ethics Committee, and currently co-chairs the NOAH Credentialing Working Group, focusing on the professional advancement of the field.
A graduate of the University of Florida’s Center for Arts in Medicine, Elke holds an MA in Arts in Medicine, supported by a BS in Human Development from Warner Pacific University, and professional certifications from Musician's Institute.
Joining the board of Swan Songs Portland, Elke brings a wealth of experience as a musician, performer, advocate for the arts in health, and non-profit leader. Her unique blend of skills and dedication to using music as a means of healing and connection is set to inspire and propel the organization to new heights.
