My Swan Songs request:
“Folk singer/songwriter, Eliza Gilkyson – Her lyrics speak to me deeply and we have been friends for decades, so her voice connects me to my true essence and the whole of my life. What we all hope a Swan Songs concert will inspire!”
Christine is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. She is the heart, voice and face of Swan Songs.
Christine is a lifelong professional musician whose personal experience inspired the creation of Swan Songs. She describes singing in the living room in 1992 for a fan who could no longer come out to hear her as an “ah-ha” moment, that eventually led to the establishment of a 501(c)(3) organization in 2005.
In addition to her work with Swan Songs, a recording and touring career (albeit less than it used to be), Christine serves on the Board of Trustees of the Recording Academy® (GRAMMY® Awards) as an officer in the position of Chair Emeritus, as well as on the board of directors of MusiCares®. She received a Certificate in Nonprofit Financial Management from Austin Community College Center for Nonprofit Studies.
Christine has appeared on the nationally syndicated PBS series Austin City Limits, was awarded “Female Vocalist of the Year” by the Kerrville Folk Festival Music Awards, “Superstar of Austin Music” for her community service work and was inducted into the “2018 Texas Music Hall of Fame” by The Austin Songwriters Group, an organization which Christine co-founded in 1986. She was recently named as a finalist in the Austin Business Journal’s “2024 Women in Business” Awards.
