$7.5K in gift cards available to musicians for fulfilling musical last wishes

“I have been drawn to the Swan Songs mission to fulfill musical last wishes for the terminally ill since attending the 2015 Swan Songs Serenade. My mother passed away in 2014 and she would have loved to have received such a beautiful gift,” said Robert Strait. As president of Strait Music Company, a provider of musical instruments, equipment and services located in Austin, TX, Robert Strait has been an active supporter of musician outreach and community programs for 35 years.

Founded in 2005 by CEO Christine Albert – an Austin-based musician and music community advocate – Swan Songs has brought together musicians and hundreds of terminally ill individuals and their caretakers and families by organizing private concerts. At the request of the recipient, a favorite style of music or musician is brought directly to their home or facility.

“It is an incredible honor to serve the Austin area community with a mission focused on creating a beautiful end-of-life transition, turning sorrow into joy. And, we feel so privileged to share this with a partner like Strait Music that also is committed to supporting local musicians,” said Christine Albert. “Through joint initiatives like the gift card program, we are able to bring even greater public awareness to the services we each provide while giving back to musicians that are offering a generous act of love.”

Strait Music is making available individual gift cards totaling $7.5K. After a Swan Songs concert, the musician receives a one-time gift card in addition to being compensated by Swan Songs for their performance.

“These musicians make a personal commitment when they perform at a Swan Songs concert and I want to thank them,” said Robert Strait. “I appreciate what they and Swan Songs are doing to bring the gift of music to those facing terminal illness knowing how we all have been touched by music at some point in our lives.”

There is no cost to the recipient, their family or the facility for a concert. This is made possible through public and private donations to Swan Songs, with its biggest annual fundraiser being the Swan Songs Serenade. Last year’s event, featuring Delbert McClinton, raised $100K, paving the way for Swan Songs to strengthen its infrastructure and expand its outreach.

The 2016 Swan Songs Serenade, featuring The Bellamy Brothers, is being held October 20th at the Riverbend Centre for the Arts. Along with the concert, the event includes a VIP reception for sponsors, a silent and live auction, cocktails and a seated dinner. Information on becoming a sponsor, donating to the auction and purchasing tickets to attend can be found at swansongs.org/events/2016-swan-songs-serenade-with-the-bellamy-brothers.
